LAUGH is Brian Wood (Dogs & Stars) and Marleen Endicott (Misfits Work) — two friends, neighbors and fellow creatives.
LAUGH spurred from a collaboration they did in June 2022. Marleen was on the Lafayette Garden Tour and also launched her ceramic art side hustle during the event. Brian had an open studio the same day and they let people wander in and out of their respective studio/yards to see what they had been creating. Marleen & Brian live across an alley from each other!
The response was fabulous and Marleen thought it'd be amazing to get more support and exposure for all the unknown, smaller artists around town — like them!
Wouldn't an art tour in Old Town be an awesome way to showcase local talent and hidden studios?
And here we are!
Say what?
Fun people making funky art and creatively schlepping their goods to make a little money for their efforts.
How so?
Artists can set up their art to sell in their homes, studios, alleys, garages, vehicles, yards, driveways…anywhere exhibitionism can skirt pricey fees and overhead. Don't live in Old Town Lafayette? No worries, we have host sites available.
This is strange.
You bet it is. We make things up! If you want to check out what makes the creative side of Lafayette so darn cool, put your fancy pants on and join us on our next tour. Meet your local weirdos and support their underground creative initiatives.
The mission of LAUGH is to promote and support fellow creatives in a manner that is itself creative. It endeavors to maintain a program with modest financial commitments from their artists but in turn uses the craftiness of the members to help market and spread event propaganda.
LAUGH is for the starving artist, the side-hustler, the bashful, the successful, the funky, the bold, the reboot, the vintage, the mainstream, and the new to the scene.
LAUGH is cultivating creativity within the community for the community. LAUGH is here to motivate artists and encourage everyone to discover the unique underground imaginative movement evolving in their neighborhood. It celebrates art as an idea, a work, a process, a person, a group, and an ineffable experience. There is no room for hate in a LAUGH event because art takes all forms, all colors, all sizes, and has no gender.
